2008-2009
Empire Girls State College Credits
Chairman:
Joan Caccamo
Member: Mary Lou Platt

T
he American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York offers an opportunity to all Citizens of Empire Girls State to earn three (3) college credits while completing their High School senior year. The Department of New York, American Legion Auxiliary, is the only Department to offer this program to its Citizens.

When they attend College the following year they could have three (3) credits already logged onto their transcript. The average cost for one (1) college credit today is between $300.00 and $500.00. We are offering this great opportunity for only $100.00 and a little bit of work. That little bit of work includes: keeping a learning log while in attendance at the 2009 Empire Girls State session, completing a 40 hour internship and writing a research paper. With the rising cost of College we need to have our Citizens take advantage of this special program. More details on the obligations will follow when the 2009 Empire Girls State booklets and forms are mailed out later in this Auxiliary year.

As Chairmen you need to inform your 2009 Citizens of this wonderful opportunity through your interviews, orientations and presentations of information to the parents.

When you have the 2008 Citizens speak at your meeting this fall please ask them if they are participating and if not, encourage them to send their application in immediately. They still have time! The internship and learning log are due by December 31, 2008 and the research paper is due by March 31, 2009. They may contact either Juanita Lochner, Department Secretary/Treasurer at Headquarters 1-800-421-6348 or myself, the College Credit Chairman, at 1-718-788-4778.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Juanita Lochner, Mary Lou Platt (College Credit Member – 1-607-638-9525 or myself.
